First, let’s start with Recon Recovery’s customer service. These guys were on it. I was in a pinch and needed a cap quickly, and they made it happen. I called probably 4 times and was never made to feel like I was bugging them, just like they were doing their best to help me. That’s hard to find these days.
Now the cap itself. It was delivered right into my garage in 3 boxes on a pallet. Took about 30 minutes to put together with two people and 10 seconds to put it in my Gladiator with 4 people, 10 minutes to get it bolted on properly. Locks great, might need to adjust the latch catches a little to get it spot on, but it’s pretty simple to do.
I waited to do this review until the cap was subject to some use. We flat towed from home in Yorba Linda, CA to Chicago by way of NV, AZ, UT, CO, NE, and IA with the bed fully loaded. We stayed the night at a RV park in Ft Morgan, CO through a good thunderstorm with some good rain, no water in the bed. We then stayed at a Harvest Host winery off a dirt road in Springfield, NE, lot of dust, but none got into the bed. This cap also withstood getting banged around on some pretty crappy stretches of interstate too. So far, outstanding.
Oh, no third brake light on the Gladiator model, but whatever. Not a big deal to me. If I want to add one I can find one no problem, just not sure it’s really necessary anyway.
