Good

I've used this winch quite a few times in the last couple of years. Its noisier than others vie heard. Only had one failure to recover. I had a long pull up a steep hill to recover a heavy old style lifted Jeep. Had to pull him twice at two angles. Nowhere or anyone to attach a snatch block. It overheated. Used ice cold water to cool it down but still took forever and ended up going back to camp for help. I keep it uncovered year round and no problems except stickers faded fast. I sprayed clear coat to preserve them.

Purchased this for my 2016 Jeep JKU, Wasn't sure to go with this 8,500 or a 9,500 winch. Decided on the 8,500 as it weighs around 22 lbs. less than the 9500 at around 72 lbs. Going to replace the wire rope with synthetic rope to save a little more weight plus it is safer. Should be more than enough to get me out of just about any situation I might get into. Very easy install as the solenoid is already placed and wired on the side of the winch. Just had to bolt it to the front bumper and run the wires to the battery. I didn't use the supplied hawse as I already had an aluminum one on my bumper, The supplied one is painted black and is pretty heavy. Connected the remote control and it started right up. Looks to be nicely made.

I've been using this winch to pull logs for firewood to the road, and it has been performing very well. I would say I've been overworking it, pulling pretty big logs for extended periods. I try to give it a break as much as possible, but it's gotten fairly hot a few times. It just keeps pulling though. One thing to note is that it's pretty slow, though I guess most winches are slow. To get around the slow speed, I've resorted to stringing out the cable to my logs, dragging them with the truck, and then reeling in the cable to pull the truck back for another bite. I can tell you the brake works very well under a static load.
